Beach Weddings on Florida's Emerald Coast

Plan a Wedding on the Beach in the Beautiful Florida Panhandle

Aug 21, 2008 Beverly Hill

If the thought of a wedding set on a romantic beach consisting of sugar-white sand, gorgeous blue water, and spectacular sunsets sounds appealing, look no further.

When considering wedding destinations, one beautiful location to consider is Florida’s Emerald Coast which stretches from Pensacola to Panama City. Perhaps one of the biggest draws is the opportunity to have a beach-side wedding on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world with a minimal amount of difficulty.

Legal Requirements for Beach Weddings in Florida

In order to have a wedding ceremony performed at the beach the couple will need a marriage license. This can be obtained at any of the county courthouses in the area. A valid photo i.d. such as a driver’s license, passport, or military i.d. will be required, as well as the exact date of any previous divorce, if any. Current fees as of 2009 are listed at $93.50.

Out of state residents are not subject to the three day waiting period that applies only to Florida residents, so ceremonies may be performed the same day that the license is obtained. More licensing information can be obtained at the Florida Clerk's website.

Best Public Beaches along the Florida Panhandle for Weddings

Once the license is obtained, its time to scout out a location for the ceremony. There are numerous beach access sites to choose from, and virtually as many wedding service providers. These provider’s fees average about $250 for a simple ceremony and trend upwards for more elaborate ceremonies.

Late afternoon to early evening are the best times to have a beach ceremony, since most of the beach-goers will have left. It also provides the perfect chance to catch one of the Emerald Coast’s famous sunsets as a backdrop. Afterwards, escape to one of the many waterfront restaurants for the wedding reception.
