Wives who celebrate Valentine's Day in a big way will want an extra-special gift for their husbands this year.

Buying for husbands on Valentine’s Day can be a challenge. When the traditional Valentines don’t work, try these alternative gift ideas.

Sports or Concert Tickets

Tickets to a sporting event or concert can be a great gift idea for husbands on Valentine’s Day. If it’s been a while since he’s seen his favorite team or band, buying tickets can be a nice gesture. Plan on going to the event together to spend some extra time one-on-one or set up a day for just the guys. Call around to make sure a couple of his friends can go before picking the date.

Magazine Subscription

A subscription to a magazine is a Valentine’s Day gift that lasts for an entire year. Look for hints to see if there is a magazine that would be a good fit. Sports Illustrated is popular but not the only choice for husbands. Not all husbands enjoy reading about sports. There are many magazines for husbands with all different interests. Popular Mechanics is great for science and technology buffs. Farm & Ranch Living appeals to men who own farms, grew up on farms or are interested in farming. Men’s Health is a great resource for men who take care of their bodies or enjoy exercising. Wives should choose a magazine that focuses on an area of their husbands interests.

Handheld Organizer

A husband who enjoys gadgets may like a handheld organizer for Valentine’s Day. Organizers can help keep track of calendar items and other important dates and more advanced models have internet access. The Palm TX Handheld has WiFi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. It features Palm’s information management software and is compatible with Windows. Husbands who are new to the technology may prefer the Palm Z22. This model has an electronic address book, calendar, alarms and more.

MP3 Player or iPod

For a husband who does not already have an iPod, an MP3 player or iPod can make a great Valentine’s Day gift. Download favorite songs for him to create a nostalgic mix from earlier in the relationship. Many older albums are available online so the MP3 player can include music he has on tapes or records. A husband who spends a lot of time carpooling or riding the train may enjoy an iPod Nano, which can play movies and music videos.

Buying a gift for a husband on Valentine’s Day can be a great way for wives to show their appreciation. Concert and sports tickets can be a special way to create a memorable experience. Gadgets and magazines can be a great way to let him know he is loved throughout the year. To learn how to add a special message on a greeting card, read How to Personalize a Greeting Card.
