How to Have a Date Night with Your SpouseGreat Ideas for Keeping Your Marriage Fun and Interesting
Date nights are becoming more and more popular, and more necessary. It is a great way to reconnect as a couple, and not just as parents.
Parents spend a lot of time, well, being parents. The lives of the children take up a lot of parental time, and between cleaning, cooking, homework, and having fun with the children, parents don't often have enough time together alone. This is why setting up a "parent date night" once a week or once every other week is a good idea. Ideas for Traditional Date NightsCouples can dress up and go out on the town to a dance hall that also serves food. Parents can enjoy favorite beverages, eat food they do not have to prepare for a change, and can dance until the wee hours or until their feet hurt too much. This is a type of date night that can be done often, as parents can enjoy this activity relatively frequently. Couples can switch to different restaurants or dance halls for variety of food and music. Take along another couple or two and make a party of the night. Take in a movie of whatever genre the two of you like. Movies are relatively inexpensive and you can eat before and after at a take-out place to make it a really inexpensive date. If you differ in your preferred genre, switch back and forth so you both get what you want. Experiment with a movie neither of you had thought of seeing before so you can be surprised and open your horizons. Browse in a bookstore. Take in some coffee and snacks at a local coffee house and then find the nearest bookstore to browse through. In fact, some bookstores such as Barnes & Noble have a cafe right inside for an inclusive trip. Go through your favorite kinds of books and peruse the new releases. Be prepared to take home a few because it is hard to spend too much time in a bookstore without at least taking home a couple of great paperbacks or hard covers. Take an evening stroll. If you live around a lake or park, travel along the walking trails by foot or on bicycle to get some exercise, and enjoy a nice evening out. This kind of date gives you time to talk about just about anything, especially things that apply just to you as a couple. Fun Non-Traditional Date NightsNot every date has to be dinner and a movie. There are things you can do that are fun and a few that are good exercise. Work out at the gym. If you have a gym membership, you can go swimming together or work out on the treadmill side by side. There are classes you can take together like yoga or spinning that are great for your health and keep you feeling close to one another. Go miniature golfing. This is a fun activity to do at sunset or in the early evening. You can go to different mini golf courses for variety and challenge each other to a game or two. Find a place to eat before or after the festivities to make it a complete date night. Check out the local mall. It is rare to have husband and wife shop together, but it can give each of you a chance to find out what the other one likes. You can shop for clothing together or just grab a bite at the food court. There are specialty shops worth exploring, and you can make the whole thing a fun experience. Having a parent date night keeps the relationship happy and fun without the kids. Babysitters are not all that expensive, and your children deserve a night off from mom and dad as well.
