Traditional wedding anniversary gifts are often tricky to think of. Here are some suggestions for fun ways to celebrate a sixth anniversary.

The traditional anniversary gift list states that the sixth wedding anniversary is a time to give iron or sweets. While it may seem like a funny joke to give a spouse an iron for the sixth anniversary, it is perhaps not the best way to guarantee there will be a seventh! Here are some iron (and sweet) gift ideas that will be better received.

Sixth Anniversary Gifts for Men

Wrought iron furnishings can be very masculine. Consider a lamp for his reading chair or a wrought iron bench for his favourite spot in the garden to read the newspaper on a summer Sunday morning.

Red meat is full of iron, and many men make no secret of their love of a good steak. As a special occasion treat, purchase some high-quality steak such as wagyu beef, and make it the central part of a romantic dinner for two.

Hide tickets to a concert or sporting event in a bag of sweets.

For the man that enjoys cooking, good quality cast iron cookware is an investment in years of excellent meals.

Sixth Anniversary Gifts for Women

While giving an iron may be out, an ironing service is a valuable timesaver for a busy woman (or man).

Again a bag of sweets can be the perfect hiding place for a small-sized gift such as a piece of jewellery or voucher for a night at a romantic getaway.

Make the sweets say it all by filling a beautiful vase, carved wooden box or champagne glasses with candy hearts. While these are easiest to come by around Valentine’s Day, wedding bombonniere stores carry them year round.

Women that do all the cooking enjoy being cooked for on special occasions. Incorporate the sixth anniversary themes by placing a small wrought iron candelabra on the table and including some delicate after-dinner chocolates for sweets.

Fun Iron or Sweet Anniversary Gifts

Never swung a nine iron? Many couple enjoy taking up a new activity together. Sign up for some golf lessons and head off for an anniversary round at the local links.

For the romantics, purchase some delicate coloured paper and use it to write love notes to wrap around favourite candies. Think along the lines of the candy heart slogans, such as “Be Mine” and “True Love”.

Chocolate body paint is a sweet way to bring some fun into the anniversary bedroom.

If finding the perfect iron or sweet gift still proves too difficult, the modern anniversary list marks the sixth anniversary as wood .

Red meat = genius! I want to stick to the traditional gift theme, but with a husband who doesn't golf, and doesn't need iron sculptures or furniture... I've been stumped. The tickets in candy are a great idea as well. Just want to say thank you for the creative suggestion!
