You can't stop thinking about your partner; a simple look sets your heart on fire. Waiting until evening to see them again makes your day seem to last an eternity.

Everyone wishes these feelings could last forever. Truth is for almost everyone, partners begin to get used to one another. Worse yet, even though no-one means to, partners do begin to take each other for granted. It isn't a conscious thing. Everyone gets into a routine. When people are comfortable in a situation, they sometimes don't try as hard to make each moment special.

Valentine's Day is the perfect time to jump start the fire that still burns. Let your partners know that they still mean the world to you. It doesn't take a lot of money to make the day special; just a little thought and a little love.

Ideas From the Heart

Breakfast is a special treat most people skip these days. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant. As a matter of fact, if too much effort is put into it all of the fun will be lost. Grocery stores these days have a wealth of specialty items, everything can be found there from ordinary to ahh!

  1. Buy a couple of croissants and maybe a little fruit flavored butter (it is decadent but then this is Valentine's Day).
  2. Pick up a few fresh berries. Anything that fires your imagination.
  3. A little double Devlin Cream or Creme Fraiche
  4. Flowers (don't forget those). Just two or three small ones for a little vase
  5. Fruit juice, something exotic (maybe passion fruit)
  6. Coffee or tea rounds the meal out nicely

On Valentine's Day morning get up a little early. It won't take long at all to put everything together. You can decide if you want to serve breakfast in bed or have a little surprise waiting on the table.

Lunch can do just as nicely if you are not a breakfast person. Depending on your schedules and if you are able to get away for a little while. Arrange to meet at a restaurant that is convenient for the two of you.

Surprise your partner by:

  1. Having flowers already there and secretly asking the server to bring them to your table
  2. Have special fortune cookies made with your own 'fortune' printed inside
  3. Your server can present a vacation itinerary to your partner instead of the check
  4. Singing telegram service can arrive to deliver a special message while you are dining

If you can't be together for lunch try arranging with your partner's office mates to be sure they stay in for lunch.

  1. Pack your partner a dull and totally boring lunch that morning but then have a nearby restaurant deliver a wonderful lunch to the office.
  2. If possible, go to your partners office early in the morning and leave a special lunch on their desk or in the break room

Dinner doesn't have to be some grand and expensive ordeal. Waiting in line for hours at some overpriced restaurant.

  1. Call ahead and pick dinner up (or buy it prepared at a gourmet grocery)
  2. Set up the table with some candles and maybe a flower or two
  3. Chill a bottle of champagne

Imagination Is The Key

Food doesn't have to be the only thing you do for Valentine's Day. Do you think you lack the imagination to be spontaneous? Are you having trouble deciding which of your awesome ideas to use? Make it a lotto. Write everything down on slips of paper and place them in a bowl. Have your partner draw out a slip of paper a la game show . Want some ideas to get you started?

  1. A massage
  2. Foot rub
  3. Midnight drive in the country/picnic
  4. Candle lit tub
  5. Champagne and strawberries by the pool

Valentine's Day is also a good day for story time. You can write your own little storybook full of clues to follow. Each clue will lead your partner to the next clue until they reach their destination. This can be anything you can imagine:

  1. A romantic hotel
  2. A restaurant
  3. Some special surprise you have hidden away in the house
  4. A secluded spot in the park for a quiet picnic
  5. Rendezvous at the spot where you first met
  6. Any special spot that can be your new favorite memory

Valentine's Day does not have to bring fear to those who think they can't come up with a clever idea or they don't have the money for that 3 carat ring. It is about love, devotion, caring. Whatever you do, do it from your heart. If you put your love and your heart into what you do, it will be loved, enjoyed, appreciated and most of all cherished and remembered forever.
