Are you a newlywed looking for some romantic ways to celebrate your first Valentine's Day as husband and wife? Here's some ideas that won't break the bank.

Why not skip over the stuffy flowers and candle light dinner for two this Valentine’s Day and try some of these new and romantic ideas, guaranteed to keep that newlywed fire burning!

Indoor Romantic Ideas

As any newlywed will tell you, there is more romance to be had inside the home than out. From morning to night, the opportunities for extra-special Valentine’s Day romance are abundant.

1. Start with breakfast in bed. Cook your sweetie his favorite breakfast and serve it to him wearing his favorite negligee. Don’t forget the mimosas!

2. Run her a bath. What wife wouldn’t appreciate a relaxing bath drawn by her husband? Be sure to use her favorite scented oils and bath products and don’t forget to light some candles to set the mood. For an extra touch, sprinkle some rose petals in the water.

3. Mutual Massages. Nothing says, “I love you” like a soft massage from your spouse. Set up some soft lighting and romantic music to create the mood. Have an assortment of massage oils readily available and take your time.

Outdoor Romanctic Ideas

You don’t need the traditional Valentine’s Day overpriced-dinner at a fancy restaurant to express your love for each other. Instead, try retracing the steps of your first date or revisiting the spot where he popped the question.

1. Have a picnic. Why not pack a dinner that you both love and plan for a late picnic under the stars? Bring the good champagne and stemware and wish on a star.

2. Go for a walk. Where you go isn’t important, just hold hands and really enjoy being in each other’s company. Studies show that couples that hold hands have more intimate relationships with their partners.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

A popular gift that wives can give their husbands for Valentine’s Day is a picture of themselves. Many professional photographers now offer boudoir photography that is sensual, yet tasteful. Just make sure hubby understands that the photos are for his eyes only!

Sentimental Souvenirs Make Great Gifts

Many newlyweds have a collection of keepsakes from their wedding and honeymoon. Why not take some of them and create a special gift for your spouse by using a little bit of imagination and some craft supplies? Using some of your favorite pictures, create a card with a photo and a romantic poem (or even your favorite verse from your wedding ceremony). Make a mini scrapbook with your airplane ticket stubs and other mementos. On each page write a memory of the wedding or honeymoon that’s especially meaningful to you.

Keeping the romance an important part of your marriage should be a priority everyday, not just on Valentine’s Day. Try to get in the habit of surprising your husband or wife with small love notes (or if you’re more tech-savvy, try sending him or her a romantic text message). By simply making your spouse feel special, you are ensured a love-filled Valentine’s Day.
